Mario Schjetnan is one of the contemporary word?s most versatile and accomplished lanscape architects, a cosmopolitan designer who is also emphatically Mexican Steeped in pre-Columbian myth and colonial history, he has been shaped equally by an awareness of twentieth century art at home and abroad and especially by friendships with a range of historic sities, from a pre-Aztec agricultural landscape south of Mexico City to the remains of a 10th century adobe city near Chihuahua. At the same time, he is no stranger to the punishing and parks for the urban poor. He is familiar with the range of the country?s ecosystems, from the rainforests of Chiapas of the deserts and high sierra of the north, which collectively make Mexico one of the most botanically diverse nations on the planet. Yet he has demonstrated the versatility to adapt his work to the increasingly global demands of practice.
